Dries Roelvink was at a loss for attitude last night in Today Inside when his sons were insulted by studio mustache Johan Derksen. “They are two annoying boys!”, he had to admit.

Dries Roelvink’s visit to the studio of Today Inside made for an awkward moment. After the usual compilation of the VI stars insulting the studio guest in question, Johan Derksen sticks to his opinion that he is annoyed by Dries’ sons. He calls Dave and Donny Roelvink ‘two idiots’.

Into the breach

Dries immediately stands up for his children. “Look, you have to keep two things apart: we have Dave and we have Donny. Donny converted, he became a Muslim and then you have to look at why. So he has faced death twice, he was run over by a hummer, he had to deal with testicular cancer.”

And then? “Then he and a friend of his, whom he has been with since he was four years old, started praying for him. So when he came out of his operation and had no metastases, he started studying Islam. Then he started reading the Koran, but that doesn’t make you a bad person.”

‘Know for yourself!’

René van der Gijp endorses this. “No, of course not. He should know that for himself!”

Johan: “Yes, but I think it would have been better for him to thank the doctor than to adopt that guy’s religion.”

Dries: “Yes, but if you are afraid of death… Look, I have the same thing as you. You also think: if we die, nothing will happen anymore. And Donny now has a religion and he clings to it. Of course there are billions of Muslims in the world, but that doesn’t make him a bad person.”

Annoying guys

Johan then delivers an ugly sneer to the Roelvink children. “No, I’m not saying that either, but I find them a bit annoying guys. There’s always something going on with those two.”

Dries uncomfortably: “Well, it’s not too bad.”

Wilfred Genee tries to clear the air: “This is a very strange conversation and I can also tell that it affects you, I can see from you now.”

Dries: “Yes, no one wants to hear anything bad about your children.”

Rico Verhoeven, who is also sitting at the bar: “They are his children, right? Then it’s not nice when someone says that?”

Addicted

Dries then continues with his son Dave, who was struggling with an addiction. “That was ten years ago. When I look at how he is doing now: he has a fantastic son, he has been clean for five years, he owns a clinic with Najib Amhali and therefore helps people as a kind of expert to stay away from drugs.”

“He is a fantastic boxer and recently won 100,000 euros with Influencers Boxing and he donated it to War Child in one go and then you say he is annoying!”

World guests

Johan then comes around. He shouts in a playful manner: “They are world guests!”

Wilfred: “But you understand where it comes from, right? Imaging works very quickly. He has done a few stupid things, but I can imagine that as a father you find that very annoying. I notice it in you too and I find that annoying for you.”

Dries concludes: “I can take a punch, but at one point I thought: we know Johan too, he always tackles people, but I have to stand up for my sons.”
