The fire broke out last night at a recycling company in the Western Docklands of Amsterdam. Rubber conveyor belts and waste materials, among other things, were set on fire. The fire created large clouds of smoke, which were visible in much of the region. Explosions could also be heard.
The fire brigade deployed a lot of equipment to prevent the fire from spreading further to surrounding buildings.
Continue to extinguish for hours
Although the situation now appears to be under control, firefighting efforts are still underway. The fire brigade expects to be working on this for hours. According to the safety region, smoke development has now decreased considerably.
No hazardous substances were found during measurements. Smoke remains unhealthy and people in the area are advised to stay away from smoke.
No injuries
As far as we know, no injuries were reported in the fire. Exactly how the fire started is still being investigated.
