Record-breaking Italian bridges: the longest, the highest, the busiest, the most expensive

According to the most recent project filed by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the bridge over the Strait of Messina is destined to break several records. First of all that of longest suspension bridge in the worldsurpassing the current leader of the ranking, the Dardanelles Bridge, by almost 1,300 metres. In fact, the Turkish infrastructure boasts a span 2,023 meters long, while in the case of the bridge over the Strait they will even pass 3,300 meters between one pylon and another. But the work designed to connect Sicily and Calabria by asphalt and rail is destined to break practically every record relating to Italian infrastructure, both in terms of its size and the costs incurred. In fact, the most recent estimates foresee a total outlay in the order of 13.5 billion euros. But before the actual opening of the construction site of the bridge over the Strait, barring further postponements or sensational about-faces, here are the Italian bridges already in operation that stand out for a particular record.
