Paderborn's Nick Bätzner looks disappointed

As of: May 8, 2026 • 8:46 p.m

SC Paderborn remains without a win for the fourth game in a row and misses the provisional jump to second place in the 2nd Bundesliga. The East Westphalians are struggling with a draw against Karlsruher SC and exploiting their own chances.

Paderborn led for a long time, but did not take advantage of the opportunities and allowed Karlsruhe to get back into the game. The KSC turned the game around within four minutes (75th and 79th minutes), but couldn’t keep the lead over time. Paderborn’s Sebastian Klaas made the final score 2-2 (1-0), but the sports club is unlikely to be satisfied with it in the fight for promotion.

Paderborn’s Kettemann: “It hurts”

“When you see the course of the game, the proportions of the game and the possibilities, it hurts.”SCP coach Ralf Kettemann was disappointed after the game to the sports show. “That’s a game you should win.

Filip Bilbija gave the hosts the lead in the 20th minute. After a deflected shot from Castaneda, the ball fell at Bilbija’s feet. The Paderborn player failed in his first attempt and KSC goalkeeper Bernat had no chance when it came to the follow-up shot.

After the opening goal, Paderborn retreated further and further, with no sign of further improvement. Instead, the guests from Karlsruhe worked their way more and more into the game. Wanitzek and Ben Farhat even had the chance to equalize (26th, 29th), but both failed. Shortly before the half-time whistle, Paderborn resumed their offensive efforts. But Baur only hit the post (37.)

Karlsruhe turns the game around in four minutes

In the second half, Paderborn initially tried more energetically to score the second goal, but Curda was denied from around seven meters by Bernat’s strong parry in the KSC goal (63′). A short time later it was Curda again who wanted to play the ball into the center just in front of the baseline. However, Karlsruhe’s Rapp was able to clear for a corner and Paderborn’s narrow lead remained.

Until the guests punished Paderborn’s weak exploitation of chances. After a nice pass from Förster, Fabian Schleusener got the ball just behind the edge of the penalty area and flicked it past SCP goalkeeper Seimen with his outside instep – the equalizer (75th).

Four minutes later another setback for the hosts. During the build-up to the game, Baur made an inaccurate pass, inviting the guests to counterattack. Herold didn’t have to be asked twice, passed the ball into the center to Fukuda, and he scored from a good 17 meters to give Karlsruhe the lead.

This is live 2nd league, you go and get something to drink and come back and the other team is leading“, KSC coach Christian Eichner was also surprised by his team’s double blow on the sports show microphone. “At that time we simply showed our cold-snout.

Paderborn’s setback is Elversberg and Hannover’s chance

Paderborn was challenged, there was a threat of a severe setback in the fight for the hoped-for third Bundesliga promotion. Sebastian Klaas was still able to limit the damage and equalize (85th). However, the hoped-for victory in the last home game of the season failed to materialize.

With the draw, Paderborn moves into the relegation place, but Hannover has the chance to overtake them in the game against Bochum on Saturday. Elversberg, second in the table, can distance Paderborn with a win against Düsseldorf.
