The PSV women have become national champions for the first time in history. Due to the home win at De Herdgang against ADO Den Haag (2-0), the Eindhoven team can no longer be overtaken with one round to go.

PSV has 51 points after 21 games in the Eurojackpot Women’s Eredivisie. Number 2 Ajax follows with 47 points. FC Twente is third with 46 points.

As national champions, PSV is the successor to FC Twente, which has been champions five times in the last seven years. In 2020, the competition was not completed due to the corona pandemic. In 2023 the title went to Ajax.

It is the first time since 2012 that a club other than FC Twente or Ajax has become champion. Back then it was ADO and only seven clubs participated in the competition.

In 2020, PSV was comfortably in the lead when the competition was canceled. The Eindhoven club already had a seven-point lead over Ajax after twelve games.

Last season, PSV finished second behind FC Twente. Both clubs had 57 points, but the championship went to Twente based on goal difference.

A year later, PSV can still celebrate the first national title in club history. Against ADO, Swiss Riola Xhemaili opened the score in the third minute. In the 76th minute, substitute Fenna Kalma made the final score 2-0.

Ivan Perisic also saw that. The Croat became national champion with the men’s team as a spectator at De Herdgang.

After the final whistle there was a party at De Herdgang. PSV previously won the KNVB Cup (2021) and the Eredivisie Cup (2025).

With the national championship, coach Roeland ten Berge (49) leaves the club from Eindhoven with a prize. It is not yet clear where his future lies. The 47-year-old Dane Kasper Kurland will take over next season.

For veteran Renate Jansen (35), it is the seventh national title in the Women’s Eredivisie, no player has equaled her. Jansen, who will retire as a professional football player after this season, won the title five times with FC Twente and once with ADO Den Haag, in 2012 with Sarina Wiegman as trainer.

“This one is perhaps the most special, in my very last year,” Jansen said to ESPN after the match. “I’m really proud of everyone, it’s just fantastic.”

“Last year we were so close and now we finally get it,” captain Laura Strik said to ESPN. “This club simply deserves that.”
