The police received a report this morning about a possible serious threat at the Drenthe College on the Van Schaikweg in Emmen. Officers searched the vocational school, but found nothing suspicious.
According to police spokesperson Thijs de Jong, the report came in in the morning. “The investigation lasted about half an hour. We left the school around 12 noon,” he says. Police did not allow anyone in or out of the building during the investigation.
He cannot say exactly what the report was about. “But it was serious enough to investigate.”
Drenthe College spokesperson Greta van der Veen confirms that officers wearing bulletproof vests entered the school. “But the incident had no influence on the lessons. The schedule continued as usual and the officers quickly left.”
The police spokesperson emphasizes that the police always take reports of possible threats seriously, “especially when it concerns a school”.
The police are still investigating whether someone made a false report. “We first complete the incident in the systems. Later we will examine whether the report was possibly false,” said De Jong.
