Best is developing into the Volendam of the South when it comes to singing talent. Rob Kemps from Snollebollekes is the most famous singer, but Sanne van Assouw (23) has started the chase now that she will be in the final of The Voice of Holland on Friday.
Sanne had often doubted whether she would participate in a singing talent show, but never dared to take the step, until last year. Under the motto who doesn’t dare, who doesn’t win, she registered for The Voice of Holland.
“This feels surreal, fantastic and terrifying at the same time.”
Sanne was not the only one who thought this way. “There were three to four thousand candidates who took the gamble. Only 72 of them were invited to the ‘Blind Auditions’. In this, the four coaches choose a number of candidates who they further guide in the next broadcasts. Sanne was picked out by Ilse DeLange.
“I had already come further than I had dared to dream,” says Sanne. “The fact that I am now in the final feels unreal, fantastic and terrifying at the same time. If anyone has a golden tip against shaking knees, please come on,” she jokes.
“Very nice, but also strange that strangers recognize you.”
She thinks she is strongest in ‘power ballads’. Her rendition of ‘Stay’ and ‘Take me to church’ are examples of this and made a deep impression on the jury and the audience.
She still has to get used to the fact that Sanne is now being recognized more and more often. “I sometimes get compliments in the supermarket when I’m shopping. Very nice, but also strange that strangers recognize you.”
In daily life, Sanne is a nurse at the Catharina Hospital in Eindhoven. “No, I am not going to sing for patients. I try to keep work and private life as separate as possible, but I notice that this is becoming increasingly difficult.”
In any case, her colleagues are bursting with pride and almost shout it from the rooftops. Online late the hospital know that their Sanne is the best and not just as a nurse.
Despite doubts about her own qualities, those around her have always believed in her and her father in particular. “I once performed in his backyard for my birthday for family and friends. My father thought this was such a success that he now organizes an annual festival in Oirschot so that I can be on that stage. Bands come and I sing along with some of them.”
This happened last year festival ‘Leunpop’ five hundred visitors. Sanne will probably sing a few songs on Sunday, but that is not entirely certain yet.
The final of The Voice of Holland starts on Friday evening at 8 p.m. on RTL 4. Viewers can then vote for the four finalists.
