Crystal Palace defeats Shakhtar Donetsk and advances to the Conference League final. This is not the first international final appearance for coach Oliver Glasner – and a title would have direct consequences for the club.

With a 2-1 win in the second leg against Shakhtar Donetsk, Crystal Palace reached the final of the UEFA Conference League. On May 27th, the English first division team will face Spanish club Rayo Vallecano in Leipzig.

The goals for Crystal Palace were scored by Pedro Henrique with an own goal in the 25th minute and Ismaïla Sarr in the 52nd minute. Rayo Vallecano had previously won 1-0 in the second leg at Racing Strasbourg – after a 2-1 first leg win in front of their own crowd.

For Glasner, winning the title would be a return to the European Cup success story. The 51-year-old Austrian won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022. He has been working on the British island since 2024 and surprisingly won the FA Cup with Crystal Palace last year.

In terms of sport, there is more at stake for the club than just a trophy. Qualifying for the Europa League via the Premier League is no longer possible. Crystal Palace is in 15th place with 43 points. A win in the final would mean direct entry into the Europa League.
