Despite a form crisis: Darmstadt extends the contract with coach Kohfeldt
May 7, 2026 – 1:07 p.mReading time: 1 min.
With seven games without a win, Darmstadt lost promotion in the final phase of the season. Nevertheless, the club is now demonstratively supporting the coach.
Florian Kohfeldt remains coach at SV Darmstadt 98. The second division club has extended the contract with the 43-year-old – two match days before the end of the season and after seven games without a win in a row. The SVD did not provide any information about the term of the contract.
Kohfeldt took over the Lilies in September 2024 from a relegation zone and then led the club to stay in the league. This season, the Darmstadt team was in the promotion race for a long time. However, in the decisive phase they remained without a win seven times in a row. With a gap of seven points to the relegation place, promotion is no longer achievable.
According to the statement, Kohfeldt explained: “I feel the total willingness of everyone involved to consistently continue on the path we have chosen and I am sure that I can continue to contribute my strengths on this path with full energy.”
Sports director Paul Fernie praised the coach for his “clear game idea”. The 43-year-old’s “will” and “ambition” to push things forward are “noticeable in every conversation,” says Fernie. He added: “The constant exchange of ideas with him gives me great pleasure and we have already been able to initiate numerous changes in the club together. I am convinced that this process is not yet over and that we can reach the next level together.”
