Berlin squad facing upheaval

Defense veteran Toni Leistner is apparently about to leave Hertha BSC. As the “Kicker” reports, the second division club is not making a new contract offer to the 35-year-old. Leistner’s working paper expires in the summer, as do those of eight other professionals including loan players. If you were promoted, your contract would have been automatically extended.
The Dresden native has been wearing the capital club’s jersey since the summer of 2023 and has played 83 competitive games. Recently, however, it has been used less and less. In November, the former captain declared that he wanted to end his career at Hertha. “Hertha BSC will definitely be my last club.” According to reports, he will be farewelled at the home game against Fürth on Sunday.
In the meantime, there were many things that pointed to a future with the Berliners. The competition for the central defender position is great, but Linus Gechter is considered a candidate for sale to a Bundesliga club, and Márton Dárdai could also move. In addition, John Brooks’ contract ends in the summer. Hertha’s defense is facing a change and the squad is facing rejuvenation after once again missing a return to the Bundesliga. 34-year-old Diego Demme will also leave the club.

Hertha BSC: Rumors about Fürth’s Hrgota
However, there were access rumors about Branimir Hrgota from SpVgg Greuther Fürth. The center forward and captain will leave the cloverleaf after seven years. “Reviersport” reported that the 33-year-old was about to make a free transfer to Hertha BSC after he had already been to Berlin and had reached a deal with the Old Lady. According to “Bild” and “Kicker”, however, the Berliners have no contact with the attacker. Rather, Hrgota is said to be leaning towards a transfer to Croatia.
