“We mourn together, because we are very sad about this,” a woman with a Dutch flag with the ‘Defend Loosdrecht’ logo on it around her shoulders told NH last night. Opponents believe that the arrival of emergency shelter was announced far too short in advance.

Some participants said that the way of communication by the municipality and mayor left much to be desired, but that they do see opportunities to ensure that the reception runs smoothly. “If they sit here all day, they go crazy. If they work like we all do, they will get a place and they can integrate into the Netherlands,” says a man after he has laid his flower at the fence.

But other participants in the funeral procession would rather see the emergency shelter disappear completely. “We actually want to show that we do not allow them into the village,” says the woman with the flag.

In addition to Loosdrechters, Members of Parliament Mona Keijzer and Gidi Markuszower also visited the funeral procession to support the opponents.

Since the announcement of the emergency shelter location in the town hall, it keeps people busy.
