Billie Eilish crowns the chapter “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT” twice. “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT: THE TOUR (LIVE IN 3D)” opens in German cinemas on May 7, 2026. The film is directed by James Cameron – the man who shaped the film landscape with “Avatar”, “Titanic” and “The Terminator”. The trailer has been out for a few days and already hints at what the project wants to be: not a tour recording, but an independent art form.
A perfect duo
The pairing seems strange at first, but it makes sense. Cameron has been working on image technology that shifts scales for decades; Eilish’s live shows are as precisely staged as her albums. Both share an obsession for detail – and the desire to not just let the audience watch, but to be right in the middle of it all. The film promises methods that have not been used before and aims to bring the concert experience to the cinema in 3D without the usual concert film distance. If this succeeds, the format could be redefined to some extent. In any case, the trailer gives us a lot to hope for: it shows insights into everyday tour life that promise cinematic goosebumps moments. Not exactly difficult when the soundtrack comes from Billie Eilish’s voice.
The background is the world tour for the third album, which debuted at number one in Germany and numerous other countries in 2024. Songs like “Chihiro,” “Wildflower,” and “Birds Of A Feather” — Spotify’s most-streamed track of 2024 — have cemented Eilish’s status as one of the most defining voices of her generation. Two Oscars, nine Grammys, youngest winner in all four main Grammy categories: the balance speaks for itself.
Special LP on recycled vinyl
The live LP for the tour will also be released to coincide with the cinema release. Since May 1st it has been available in an exclusive, one-off edition on 100 percent recycled vinyl. This is consistent – Eilish has integrated sustainability into her tour production from the start, from low-emission stage concepts to plant-based catering. The fact that the physical release continues this line is not a marketing ploy, but a logical extension. One-off edition means: If you want it, you should be quick.
Cinema, vinyl, a closed album chapter. Cameron visual power in the hall, recycled sound for the record shelf at home. A final bang for “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT”.
