Every year millions of Italians face the expenses necessary to use their car. Whether they are enthusiasts or not, the main items that appear on every car owner’s account are car insurance, tax, inspection, fuel, wear and tear and maintenance. An analysis carried out by Facile.it in collaboration with Online car practices has answered the enigma that at this point is legitimate to ask: “How much does it cost to maintain a car?”. The research, conducted on a sample of over 18,000 estimates made on three different driver profiles, demonstrated that the average annual cost that drivers have to bear is 4,486 euros. It is equivalent to almost double the Italian median salary (which according to Istat sources in 2024 was 2,642 euros). Another relevant data is the difference in annual costs if you move from north to south Italy. Between Rome, Milan and Naples, the Campania capital is confirmed as the city where maintaining a car costs the most, with annual expenses ranging between 3,098 euros and 4,486 euros compared to 2,329 euros and 3,404 euros in the Lombard capital and 2,532 euros and 3,694 euros in the capital.
