Hans Smolders is immediately resigning from the Tilburg city council. This was reported by the faction chairman of Lijst Smolders Tilburg.
During the recent municipal elections, Smolders’ party became the largest in Tilburg. To the Brabants Dagblad tells he that ‘the impotence over the course of events after the elections has grabbed him by the throat’.
No collaboration with the Smolders party
After the elections, D66 pulled the plug on a collaboration with Smolders. Smolders was disappointed with D66’s choice. According to him, things went wrong at two points: the Ringbaan West and two new asylum seekers’ centers in Tilburg.
According to Bas van der Pol of D66, it came to a standstill due to the major differences between the core values of the parties. In March, the now 65-year-old Smolders looked back on the past municipal elections with mixed feelings.
