Staying in the league is almost done

When René Wagner temporarily took over from Lukas Kwasniok in Cologne, FC was in danger of relegation. This has now been banned – and Wagner should be rewarded with a new contract.
1. FC Köln is almost certain to stay in the Bundesliga – and a decision is also imminent on the coaching question. René Wagner should take over the team permanently.
According to information from the “Geissblog” portal, those responsible are planning to make the previous interim coach head coach for the coming Bundesliga season. The 37-year-old took over the team after separating from Lukas Kwasniok.
According to the report, sports director Thomas Kessler in particular is considered a big supporter of Wagner. The club management should see the Dresden native as one of the greatest coaching talents in the Bundesliga. His work with the team and the stabilization of the team in the relegation battle are particularly valued internally.
Under Wagner, Cologne has only won one of five games so far. However, FC only lost one game. Especially in the current situation, those responsible apparently view this as positive.
After the 2-2 draw at Union Berlin, Kessler said: “René has always scored, with the exception of the good game against Leverkusen. That’s certainly not bad for us.”
For the bosses, the fact that the Cologne team have hardly set any highlights in terms of play should not speak against Wagner, nor should his media work, which is still somewhat unusual. After the successful rescue mission, the new trainer should now apparently be given the opportunity to develop further together with the team.
According to the report, those responsible also see Wagner as the right man for the upcoming second part of the squad change in the summer because of his internal communication skills.
