Last night, local residents received more information at a meeting. A dog school is active near the place where the windmill would be located. Yvan Callewaert, local resident: “We are very concerned about the dog school, what that shadow will do to the dogs in training, what those sounds and vibrations will do. We are very worried about this, not just me, but all members. And not only for the dog school, but also the family, the neighbors, everyone is very worried.”
The residents fear the effects of cast shadows, low-frequency noise and vibrations on their health. Rik Werbrouck, local resident: “It’s your health that counts in your life, right? We don’t agree with that.”
Ventilus
The neighborhood is particularly startled by the new plans, because in 2016 an application to install wind turbines in the same area was refused. Rik Werbrouck, local resident: “Now they are apparently bringing everything up again and we see the same effect as in 2016. They just moved them a little bit. And why did they move them? Because the Ventilus comes there with its cables.”
Negative advice
The other turbine would then be placed in Lichtervelde on the other side of E403 in the area of Damplasstraat. Lichtervelde and Wingene are on the same page. Lieven Huys, mayor of Wingene: “We are going to submit negative advice. At a certain point it will stop near ‘t Veld in Zwevezele, next to Lichtervelde. We are already dealing with the Ventilus file. Now two more wind turbines may be added. There are negative consequences for people, animals and the environment. It will stop at a certain point. I think the size here is more than full.”
The public inquiry will run until Saturday, May 23.
