A curious turnaround in the Czech biathlon team: In mid-March, Tereza Vinklárková announced that she was leaving the ski hunter camp and switching to cross-country skiing. The national association announced on Tuesday: The 27-year-old is staying and carrying on.

Just a few weeks ago, Tereza Vinklárková left no doubt that her career as a biathlete was over.

“Standing back while I’m at the peak of my form feels like the right decision,” she said in a “bezky.net” interview in mid-March. At the same time, the 27-year-old announced her move to the cross-country skiing camp, where she wanted to start on long distances in the winter of 2026/27.

The unexpected turnaround came on Tuesday: Vinklárková was re-appointed to the A squad by the Czech Biathlon Association and is apparently continuing her career as a ski hunter.

Sports director Ondřej Rybář explained that Vinklárková would be allowed to get into shape for the coming season in the youth team away from the A team. But: “We expect her to return to the A team in the winter.”

Biathlon star about to return after back surgery

Those responsible also expect former world champion Markéta Davidová to return. The 29-year-old had to undergo back surgery for the second time in April after suffering a herniated disc.

“Nobody wants to rush into anything now. Markéta will have a longer rehab and a transition phase with light training ahead of her. As soon as she is ready to start training again, we will talk to her about an individual plan,” said Rybář about the comeback plan of his athlete, who was unable to finish either the last or the season before last as planned and had to go into the summer break early.
