Another fatal accident in Romagna, the victim of which was a 56-year-old woman of Chinese nationality. A pedestrian was also injured. Fatal accidents have risen to more than 60 since the beginning of the year
She was hit just before 6.00 am Tuesday 5 May 2026 the 56-year-old Chinese woman who was hit and killed by a car while riding her bike was passing through Piazza Spallicci, just over 2 km from the center of Cesena. The episode occurred just before dawn, in the suburban neighborhood of Case Finali. Once the alarm was raised, the 118 medical staff arrived at the scene of the accident, but could do nothing against the severity of the injuries suffered by the cyclist. In the impact the victim’s body, subsequently recovered by the firefighters, remained stuck under the front part of the vehicle. The police also intervened on site to carry out the investigations necessary to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident. In addition to the 56-year-old, another 63-year-old pedestrian was also involved in the accident and suffered minor injuries. After receiving initial treatment, he was transported to Cesena hospital for further checks.

On Sunday 3 May the Asaps-Sapidata Cyclist Observatory published the data relating to the first quarter of 2026. According to the data released by the body, between January and April there were 63 fatal accidents in which cyclists lost their lives. Among the victims, men prevail (56 out of the total) and almost half are over 65. In the first four months there were 60 deathsin line with the data for 2025, the year in which there were a total of 222 fatal accidents involving cyclists. The region in which there have been the most victims remains Lombardy (16) followed by Veneto (12) and Emilia-Romagna (8). Asaps, which is based in Forlì, obtains its data by consulting the local press and relying on its staff employed in the area. Consequently, the data provided by the Romagna association does not have statistical validity like the Istat and Aci sources. Asaps’ objective is to underline the importance of an important and ever-current theme, namely the risks that pedestrians and cyclists face when traveling on the road.
