Now there was quite a prompt.

Red Bull’s Dutch driver Max Verstappen has loudly criticized the current rules of F1. PDO

Former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya proposes a rather drastic solution to interfere with the current star of the sport, Max Verstappen. According to Montoya, Verstappe should simply be “shelved”.

Montoya does not like the way Verstappen has continued to criticize the current rules of the sport, even though F1 and the international car federation FIA have tried to address the grievances that emerged in connection with the recent rule changes.

F1 cars were modified in a significant way for the season that started. Among other things, the changes focused on the engine side, where even more electric power was introduced.

F1 drivers have had to take various measures to charge the electric batteries. This has not pleased, for example, the four-time world champion of the sport, Max Verstappen, who has loudly criticized the new rules.

F1 and FIA reacted to the issue during last weekend’s Miami GP, when the restrictions on electric motors were changed compared to the previous one.

However, that was not enough for Verstappen, who continued to criticize.

Juan Pablo Montoya, who drove in F1 in the 2000s, is irritated by Verstappen’s constant complaints.

– The sport has to be respected, Montoya stated on the BBC’s Checkered Flag podcast.

– It’s okay if you don’t like the rules, but the way he has commented on them and how he behaves towards them – there should be sanctions, Montoya insists.

Montoya made a rather radical proposal. According to the Colombian, Verstappen should be given so many penalty points that he would be banned from racing.

– Put him away. Give him seven or eight penalty points so he gets banned. I guarantee the messages will be different after that, Montoya threatened.

Verstappen has called the current F1 cars, among other things, electric formulas running on steroids. He has also referred to electric batteries, how driving current F1 cars is like playing Mario Kart.

– It’s okay if you have a bad mouth. I’m not saying he shouldn’t be, but don’t describe an F1 car as Mario Kart, Montoya rips Verstappen.

Montoya believes that Verstappen’s comments show how difficult his team, i.e. Red Bull, has been during the early season.

Verstappen is currently only seventh in the Drivers’ World Championship. His teammate Isack Hadjar is only in 13th place.

Montoya, 50, who criticized Verstappen’s actions, worked as Kimi Räikkönen’s McLaren team mate in 2005 and -06. His F1 career ended in the summer 2006 American race when he crashed with Räikkönen. Montoya then announced that he would move to the Nascar series.

Montoya became known as a very hot-headed driver who shared snarky comments towards the media. He also drove Williams in F1.

The F1 season continues at the end of May in Canada.
