Chelsea FC is worried about its youngster Jesse Derry. The 18-year-old professional debutant suffered a head injury in a bad collision in the Premier League game against Nottingham Forest. After the collision with Forest defender Zach Abbott in the guests’ penalty area shortly before the end of the first half, Derry went down. He was then treated by doctors on the pitch for around ten minutes. He was also supplied with oxygen.
The 18-year-old was taken out of the stadium on a stretcher to applause from both fan camps and taken to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for further medical examinations. Abbott, who was able to leave the pitch on his own, also had to be replaced.
There was another moment of shock after about an hour. Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez and opponent Morgan Gibbs-White collided heads. Both also had to be treated for longer because of bleeding wounds and were each replaced with head bandages.
In terms of sport, Chelsea put in a weak performance under the eyes of England coach Thomas Tuchel. Coach Calum McFarlane’s team suffered their sixth Premier League defeat in a row with 1:3 (0:2). As a result, the Blues slipped to ninth place in the table and are now three points behind a European Cup place. Bitter: Cole Palmer missed the penalty after the Derry injury (45th + 10th) and a goal from João Pedro (73rd) was conceded by the VAR for offside. The Brazilian’s beautiful overhead kick goal (90+3) came too late.
Nottingham, on the other hand, celebrated a successful dress rehearsal for the semi-final second leg of the Europa League against Aston Villa on Thursday thanks to the brace from former Unioner Taiwo Awoniyi (2nd/52nd minute) and the penalty kick from Igor Jesus (15th).
