“We are happy that the competition is decided on the field and not in the courtroom,” Volendam responded in a short statement to NH Sport. Telstar does not wish to respond substantively to the verdict.
The competition match between Go Ahead and NAC previously ended in a 6-0 win for the Deventers, but the club from Breda filed a complaint. For the home club, the ineligible Indonesian international Dean James participated.
NAC went to court after the KNVB’s decision not to replay the match. The case formed the basis of the passport gate, in which several internationals from Indonesia and Suriname lost their Dutch citizenship.
