Shortly after their perfect promotion to the Bundesliga on Saturday evening, FC Schalke 04 are now also early champions of the 2nd Bundesliga. The team of coach Miron Muslic, whose contract has been extended until 2028 with the return to the upper house, can no longer be pushed out of first place after the results of the pursuers Hannover 96 (3:3 against Preußen Münster) and SC Paderborn (1:5 against SV Elversberg) on Sunday. Two game days before the end of the season, Schalke has 67 points, SVE now has 59 and Hannover and SCP have 58 (in the second division table).

“A perfect weekend for us,” said Muslic on Sunday and praised: “Being the best team in the league says a lot about our season. We want to play well in the two remaining games and then we look forward to celebrating with our fans after the last game.” Sports director Youri Mulder said: “The team totally deserves this! They have worked for it all year and have gotten better and better. A fantastic weekend for Schalke and our city.”
Sports director Frank Baumann said about the Schalke championship: “We are very pleased to have secured first place after promotion. Two match days before the end of the season, this is a great success – compliments to everyone who worked on this journey! 67 points after 32 games – no team has scored so many in ten years. This impressively shows the level of performance. That’s why the second division championship is absolutely deserved.”
