The Gasselterveld has a so-called dog lock. More than forty wooden poles form the lock that should make it clear to dog owners where they can and cannot walk their dogs. It can be found between the swimming pond ‘t Nije Hemelriek and the Gasselterveld swimming lake.
The lock is necessary because it happens too often that dogs take a dip in the bathing water and then leave a small or large message. Consequence? Dirty water and possibly a fine for the owner. Even walking between the waters with the dog was forbidden, but it did happen. “Our boas had their hands full,” says ranger Linde Veldhoen.
That is why a solution was needed and it now seems to have been found: the paths have been changed and walking along them with your four-legged friend is now allowed, provided they are kept on a leash and remain between the posts. Every ten meters there is one with a no dogs allowed icon.
“It clearly indicates to me as a dog owner: just walk a little further. And then you will see the next sign whether it is allowed or not,” laughs Pijke Nouwen, who is walking with Maringe Oomkes and their dog Milou. “I think it works.”
