In July 2024, Ida was unexpectedly diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. “I was 59 years old,” says the Alkmaar resident. At that moment she thought, “This is it.”
Visit fellow sufferers at home
Ida is the mother of two sons and grandmother of two grandchildren. She goes into battle for them. The chemo and radiation, but also the yellow vision, the itching and no appetite, is sometimes degrading for Ida. “What does someone with this disease have to undergo…”
When she slowly started to recover after the treatments, she decided that attention should be paid to these types of stories. “It had to have a face,” says Ida.
Ida comes into contact with fellow sufferers through Living With Hope, a patient platform for people with pancreatic cancer. “Everyone responded positively and was eager to participate.”
