He actually wanted to watch the top game between Manchester United and Liverpool FC. But the day ended unpleasantly for Sir Alex Ferguson.
Manchester United’s coaching icon Sir Alex Ferguson was taken to hospital on Sunday shortly before his heart club’s Premier League game against Liverpool FC (3-2). However, it is not said to be an emergency; British media are reporting that it is a precautionary measure. The 84-year-old felt unwell and was taken away in an ambulance from the Old Trafford tunnel area.
There was initially no further information about his current state of health, but club representatives were optimistic that Ferguson would be able to return home soon, the BBC reported.
Ferguson usually watches Manchester United’s home games from the VIP box. He was seen in the stadium with guests before kick-off. The cardiologist Dr. Aseem Malhotra posted a photo with Ferguson at Old Trafford on Sunday.
“I wish him nothing but the best,” said United team manager Michael Carrick after his Red Devils’ win: “Hopefully the result will give him a good boost when he hears about it.” Former Berlin and Leipzig player Matheus Cunha (6th) and former RB striker Benjamin Šeško (14th) had put Manchester in the lead against their rivals. After Liverpool equalized thanks to goals from Dominik Szoboszlai (47th) and Cody Gakpo (56th), Kobbie Mainoo shot Manchester to victory and thus into the Champions League (77th).
Ferguson suffered a cerebral hemorrhage in 2018 and was seriously ill at the time. The Scot shaped Manchester United for 27 years and won numerous national and international titles during this time – including 13 championships and two Champions League successes.
