Hannover 96 turned around a 2-0 deficit against Preußen Münster and gave up the win in almost the last minute. This means that Lower Saxony’s direct promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga is becoming more distant.
Heads went down, the disappointment was palpable: Hannover 96 lost their hoped-for second place in the table after the 32nd matchday after a 3:3 (2:2) draw against relegation candidate Münster.
Coach Christian Titz’s team was consistently dominant against Preußen Münster, but they were unable to convert their superiority into goals for a long time. Shortly before the end, Lower Saxony conceded the equalizer.
Mustapha Bundu (45th + 1 minute, 45th + 4th) and Stefan Thordason (86th) scored for Hannover. The goals for Münster were scored by Imad Rondic (25th), Shin Yamada (39th) and Jorrit Hendrix (90th + 3).
“Of course you’re disappointed. We wanted to approach the game differently and suddenly we’re 2-0 down. Today we even had a bit of luck in the end. It’s still exciting. We have to do our homework, it’ll go down to the last matchday“said Hanover coach Titz.
Solo from Münster’s Rondic
Sometimes coaches are right with their intuition. Prussia coach Alois Schwartz had called up two strikers, Rondic and Yamada, in his team’s last chance to stay in the league. And this measure should have an effect. Hannover played, Münster scored.
“We saw a great football game. It was worth it for the spectators to come. We were 2-0 up and then we had to do a better job of taking it into the break. We were a little closer to 4-3, it wasn’t meant to be. The team tried everything again. We have to beat Darmstadt and see what the others do. Then we might have a final in Elversberg,” said Prussia coach Schwartz.
Imad Rondic scored the guests’ surprising 1-0 lead with a header from a corner. It was the tenth header goal that the Hanoverians had conceded. And as soon as they had recovered from that and applied constant pressure again, the Prussians struck again, ice-cold.
After Rondic’s remarkable solo on the right side, Yamada only had to hold his foot and finish from six meters to make it 2-0.
Double strike from Hannover’s Bundu
After that, the Münster team had everything under control, and it looked like Hannover would have to bite their teeth into the Münster team’s robust defense – until stoppage time came and Bundu suddenly outgrew himself.
First the offensive player finished with a fantastic shot from the edge of the penalty area into the top right corner of the goal to make it 1-2. Three minutes later he converted a cross from Wasniss Taibi with a dropkick to make the score 2-2 at halftime.
The Titz team was also the dominant team in the second half and created a few scoring chances. But there was a lack of accuracy in the finish, so the Prussians didn’t have to accept any further goals.
Attackers Münster residents
On the contrary: the Münster team initially had the better scoring opportunities. Hanover professional Thordason was just able to save on the goal line after a header from Rondic (79th).
Then it was the Icelander again who made it 3-2 with a long-range shot from 20 meters. The Münster team then ran forward and actually managed to equalize after previously failing to hit the post.
Hendrix scored spectacularly with a direct shot from 25 meters to make it 3-3 for the Prussians, who were at least able to keep their hope in the relegation battle.
