To celebrate the liberation of the Netherlands and the freedom in which we live, Liberation Festivals and other festivities will take place throughout Drenthe on May 5. The public transport agency Groningen Drenthe expects extra crowds in public transport and is therefore deploying extra buses.
The buses run according to an adjusted holiday timetable and more buses will run on routes where crowds are predicted.
The Drenthe Liberation Festival in Assen is easily accessible by train and bus. Once you arrive at the station in Assen, line 55 runs to the festival location at Baggelhuizerplas. From Groningen, visitors can take the Qliner 309 to the Torenrotonde stop in Assen. From there it is about a 750 meter walk to the festival.
Festival goers don’t have to worry about getting home either. The public transport agency announces that many bus lines to and from Assen run longer on this day. Line 24 Assen-Borger and line 51 Assen-Annen-Zuidlaren also run on the evening of Liberation Day.
Extra buses are also used for the Liberation Festival in Emmen. Many lines to and from Emmen run until 2 a.m.
Line 73 between Emmen and Ter Apel runs extra journeys from 1 p.m. Express bus 127 Emmen-Hoogeveen also makes extra journeys at events for the first time. In the afternoon between rush hours and around midnight there is a bus every hour. Hoogeveeners can get home up to twenty minutes faster.
