A major fire broke out on the Jonkheer de Jongestraat in the center of Hoogeveen last night.
Just before 1 a.m., the fire probably started in a car that was parked under a carport, a VRD spokesperson said. The flames then quickly spread to the adjacent apartment complex. Residents have been removed from their homes.
Fire brigades from all over the region have been called to fight the fire with several fire engines and try to prevent the fire from spreading further.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. It is also not clear whether there are any injuries.
