Peter Bosz again failed to beat Ajax with PSV. The Eindhoven club seemed to win the match 1-2 after a goal by Myron Boadu, but saw the team from Amsterdam draw 2-2 in injury time.
At the turnout, the champions received a guard of honor from Ajax. The players showed their respect, but in the stands in the Johan Cruijff ArenA there was mainly whistling. Bosz opted for almost the same line-up as against PEC Zwolle, only Paul Wanner was available again and took over Joël van den Berg’s place.
There was no champagne legs at PSV after the trip to Ibiza. Because after 35(!) seconds the score was already 0-1. A long throw-in was extended by Yarek Gasiorowski. Ricardo Pepi appeared at the second post to head in from close range. And after seven minutes it could have even been 0-2, if everyone had had their eyes on focus. Couhaib Driouech was able to shoot in front of an empty goal, but miraculously shot the ball wide.
And yet it was 1-1 after ten minutes. After Mika Godts had rounded goalkeeper Matej Kovár, Mauro Júnior managed to recover, but had to give away a corner. This corner resulted in a variation that PSV had not expected. Ajax defender Anton Gaaei was able to shoot freely from the box and did an excellent job.
For the rest of the first half, PSV mainly chased the ball. Ajax controlled the game and occasionally came dangerously in front of the PSV goal. A lot went wrong for the national champions after the 1-1.
The game pattern was also the same at the start of the second half. PSV had to make do with a few shots from Driouech. The accompanying away fans were not bothered by the poor game. They were seen and heard loudly throughout the match, including some championship bowls.
Bosz tried to get some life back in the brewery by replacing Joey Veerman and Paul Wanner for Noah Fernandez and Sergiño Dest, which made the midfield look different. Myron Boadu and Dennis Man also joined the team.
Ultimately it paid off. Fifteen minutes before the end, Fernandez entered into a combination with Man, after which the Romanian pulled the ball low from the right towards Boadu. The ball fell between the striker and Ajax players Maarten Paes and Ko Itakura, but in the end the PSV player crumpled the ball over the line, allowing the people of Eindhoven to cheer again.
The victory already seemed to be in the bag, but in injury time there was Ajax one more time. Again it was Anton Gaaei with a shot from outside the box. This time Kovář was able to save, but the ball fell just outside the box. There Godts was ready to take the ball in one go. That shot went in at the bottom of the corner. So it became 2-2 in the final minutes. And so Peter Bosz has still not won with PSV in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
The draw does not matter for the rankings. PSV had been champions for a long time. Still, there will be disappointment in Eindhoven about the draw. Next week PSV will visit Go Ahead Eagles.
