With a goal and an assist, national player Jule Brand led Olympique Lyon to the final of the Women’s Champions League. The French defeated defending champions FC Arsenal 3-1 in the semi-final second leg, overturning a 1-2 deficit from the first leg. The final will take place on May 23rd in Oslo.
Wendie Renard gave Lyon the lead with a penalty kick in the 21st minute. Brand made it 2-0 with a corner in the 36th minute through Kadidiatou Diani. When defender Ashley Lawrence scored an own goal in the 76th minute, extra time seemed inevitable, but Brand scored in the 86th minute to make it 3-1.
In the final, Lyon will face FC Bayern Munich or FC Barcelona. The two clubs will face each other on Sunday from 4.30 p.m. (in the live ticker on t-online) at the Camp Nou – the first leg in Munich ended 1-1. For Lyon it’s about the ninth Champions League title. In the quarter-finals, the French eliminated Brand’s former club VfL Wolfsburg. The last title win was four years ago.
