The time has almost come: the verdict in the appeal in the abuse case against Ali B is scheduled for next week. Should he go straight to prison after the judge’s ruling?
The judge in Amsterdam will rule on Ali B’s criminal case on Thursday. The ruling will take place in the Palace of Justice and start at ten o’clock in the morning. What happens if he is also convicted on appeal? Can Aran Bade and his friends from the press accompany the rapper live to the nearest prison?
To jail?
That is not going to happen, explains Private Boss Evert Santegoeds. “We don’t know if he will be there. He said during the hearing that he would be there. Then his lawyer said: ‘Well, we don’t know that yet,'” he says in the podcast Strictly Private.
He continues: “It is also not the case that he can be arrested on the spot if he is convicted, because that would have to be requested in advance by the public prosecutor. Then it is actually said: ‘Take a suitcase with you when you come and a toothbrush and everything for at least the first night.’ He doesn’t have to be afraid of that.”
On appeal
After the appeal, Ali B can also appeal in cassation. “If he files an appeal in cassation, any enforcement of the judgment will also be postponed. Cassation will be another year and a half away.”
He concludes: “I don’t rule it out, but cassation is no longer about whether he did it or not, but whether all procedures have been completed properly. What he has to gain from this is the postponement of any punishment that may be imposed on him.”
