Renze Klamer is seen as the great talent who will save the late evening of RTL 4, but according to Johan Derksen he is not admired internally at all. “Even worse than Matthijs!”
Beau van Erven Dorens and Humberto Tan are throwing up on Renze Klamer and they miss no opportunity to show it. Where does that hatred come from? Is it really just because RTL Tonight failed and their younger colleague can now save the day? Johan Derksen adjusts at the table Today Inside that there is more going on.
Hate Renze
An RTL source informed Johan that Renze would be very bad behind the scenes. “I spoke to someone from RTL and he said: ‘What you all say about Renze is not correct at all.’ He says: ‘He is very hated at RTL. He is worse to deal with than Matthijs van Nieuwkerk.’”
“He says: ‘Everyone hates him, he doesn’t get involved in anything, he acts haughty.’ I say: ‘Yes, I just think he’s a good presenter.’ Yes, he couldn’t say much about that, but he seems to be in a very bad position. And Peter Lubbers also seems to hate him.”
One source
Bar guest Tina Nijkamp is shocked. “I can’t imagine that.”
René van der Gijp: “Who do you know about?”
Johan: “Well, from someone within RTL. It wasn’t Sven Sauvé.”
Wilfred Genee: “Was it one source? Because one source is not a source, they often say, right?”
Johan: “It was one source. It is not a source, but it is true.”
Tina: “I don’t believe that at all. If Renze was really that bad and had cursed everyone and stuff, they would never have given him that late-night slot.”
‘That’s nonsense!’
According to Johan, RTL only had one option. “They stood with their backs against the wall.”
Thomas van Groningen: “Who then, Tina?”
Johan: “They had no other choice.”
Tina: “Well, that’s nonsense. You can also get Tim de Wit from Pauw & De Wit.”
René: “Timmetje! Laughing, screeching, roaring.”
Wilfred: “I always find Tim adorable when he comes up. That always looks very sweet.”
Nice guy
Tina is pro-Renze. “I don’t know. I’ve met Renze behind the scenes and I always thought he was a nice guy, but anyway, that’s what they said about Matthijs too. Well, okay, and Peter Lubbers has just started. He also thinks, if he’s an asshole: ‘I’m not going to put him there!’ Then he comes up with something else.”
The editor-in-chief of Renze seems to be pulling for Valentijn Driessen. Johan: “Valentijn is very loyal. I approached him twice for VI, even to become my successor, and he is very loyal to De Telegraaf. He will never leave De Telegraaf and I don’t think he will leave here either, no, he feels comfortable here.”
Fidelity
Thomas thinks Valentine will stay with VI. “He is also loyal to you. We tried it once at Nieuws van de Dag. Bidding higher and higher, you know, but then he said: ‘I don’t feel like it.’ He doesn’t do that.”
Wilfred about Renze: “Anyway, I have to ask if what you heard is true. Then you get a different picture if it is.”
Johan: “We judge him on his craftsmanship and there is little to complain about, but he does seem to have a bit of star appeal internally.”
Really shitty
What exactly does Tina think? “I think what happened: he thought that show was really shitty and then he thought: I actually don’t want it. Then he started doing things against his will and maybe that’s when he became insufferable and unkind.”
She continues: “But I think that with a new beginning he will soon be very nice, just like before. I think he may have started coaching because he thought: this format does not suit me, it is a bad format. He was a voice crying in the desert.”
Training
René has mixed feelings about it. “It’s true, Tina: you should never go to the wrong trainer. Look, you shouldn’t do that to the editors. Then you have to go to Peter van der Vorst and say: ‘You can get shit with your shitty program.’ You shouldn’t go to people or to the editors… They can’t do anything about it.”
Johan: “What he also said is that he never prepared. He came in and knew nothing about it.”
René: “He didn’t prepare anymore.”
Johan concludes: “No, he gets a script like that and he gets by with that. Yes, if that boy can get by with that, then I don’t think he needs to prepare.”
