LASK is the Austrian Cup winner for 2026. The Linzers defeated league rivals SCR Altach 4-2 after extra time in the final on Friday in Klagenfurt. For the Upper Austrians, the cup success is the first title since winning the double in the 1964/65 season.
The final initially went completely in the spirit of the Vorarlberg underdog, who took the lead in the fifth minute through Patrick Greil. Moses Usor equalized for Linz in the 10th minute, and Vesel Demaku restored the lead for Altach in the 30th minute. In the 66th minute, the Upper Austrians were able to equalize again through Samuel Adeniran, and the score was 2-2 and the game went into extra time. Linz were clearly superior in this one, George Bello (101′) and again Adeniran (103′) secured the 4-2 victory with their goals. In the second half of extra time, Altach was down to ten players after Joker Marlon Mustapha knocked George Bello down with a punch and was logically sent off.
With the cup win, the Linzers also have a chance of winning their second double; In the league, Dietmar Kühbauer’s team leads the table after 29 match days. The Burgenland coach achieved something historic by winning the cup; he was able to defend the title with another club after leading Wolfsberg to success last season.
The competition’s top scorer with his two final goals was Samuel Adeniran, who ended the season with five goals.
