We have to be positive.
Gianni Infantino wants to be re-elected as FIFA President in 2027. That should probably be the headline after the FIFA Congress in Vancouver. Instead, this moment here is causing a stir. Infantino asks the officials of the Israel and Palestine football associations to shake hands on stage as a sign of reconciliation. Palestine President Jibril Rajoub refuses to shake hands with Israel’s deputy, Sheikh Suleiman. I can’t shake his hand. We are suffering in Gaza, he says instead, referring to the war in the Middle East. An unpleasant moment for FIFA. And Infantino, who probably hoped to present himself as a peacemaker at the congress.
