Filling jug purchase option not an issue

55 scorers in 121 games – Gabriel Jesus’ quota at Arsenal FC is definitely impressive. Since tearing his cruciate ligament last year, the 29-year-old has no longer been able to reach his top form and is rarely in coach Mikel Arteta’s starting lineup. A change is likely to come into focus in the coming transfer window, as there is no shortage of interested parties.
In the podcast “Sky Calcio Unplugged” by transfer reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, AC Milan’s interest was once again highlighted. The Rossoneri had been loosely linked with Jesus last winter, but instead signed Niclas Füllkrug on loan from West Ham United. However, the national striker only managed one goal in 17 appearances and will not stay despite the existing purchase option. According to the report, Jesus is now the number one transfer target.
Füllkrug and the Arsenal striker have one thing in common: both have struggled with injuries recently. The Brazilian, who was set back several times by knee problems in the past, tore his cruciate ligament in January 2025 and only celebrated his comeback in December. Since then he has scored five goals in 25 appearances, but he has often remained on the bench for long periods of time, especially in the important games in the Champions League (a total of 40 minutes in five knockout games).
Jesus’ Arsenal contract only runs until 2027 and the Gunners would have to make a decision this summer to avoid a free transfer next year. Jesus himself had already emphasized this year that he wanted to extend the contract – but it is doubtful whether the club bosses share this wish given the market value loss of 55 million euros in three years.
