In the future, Netflix will show clips in portrait format from the streaming giant’s offerings in its smartphone app.
The idea behind it is to make it easier for users to find films and series that interest them. The Clips section will initially be launched in the USA, Great Britain and seven other countries, with more to follow, as Netflix announced.
The function is structured a bit like a video app: scrolling is vertical. Films and series can be added to your personal Netflix list directly from the clips area and forwarded to friends. Netflix is reacting to the fact that smartphone users often see excerpts from the streaming provider’s program on TikTok, for example.
The image sections are adapted to the portrait format. Netflix also wants to select different fragments for different users, tailored to their interests. Excerpts from podcasts and the Netflix live program will follow later, it was said.
Investors do not seem to view this step as a milestone: after hours, the share was trading on the NASDAQ with a moderate gain of 0.31 percent to $93.80.
