He simply cannot be beaten: Tadej Pogacar also won the second stage of the Tour de Romandie. In the last meters of the 173.1 kilometers from Rue to Vucherens he was even faster than sprint specialists.
The Slovenian cycling star won in the final sprint of a larger group and celebrated his second victory on the third day; at the start of the prologue, Pogacar had “only” finished sixth. On Thursday, the 27-year-old won ahead of the Frenchman Dorian Godon, who is actually one of the top sprinters and had already achieved stage victories at Paris-Nice and the Tour of Catalonia this year.
“The others were in the wind too early, which was an advantage for me. I had everything under control and was able to do a good sprint”said Pogacar, who won the difficult spring classic Liège-Bastogne-Liège on Sunday.
Lipowitz’s attack was unsuccessful
Shortly before the finish, Florian Lipowitz launched an attack, but he was unable to break away decisively. In any case, the German professional cyclist from Red Bull Bora-hansgrohe didn’t make any friends with his riding style the day before, when he refused to take the lead in a four-man breakaway group around Pogacar and received a reprimand from the tour champion. In the overall ranking, Lipowitz, who finished 24th in the daily ranking, remains second, 17 seconds behind Pogacar.
A demanding profile awaits the riders again on Friday in the third stage over 176.6 kilometers with start and finish in Orbe. In particular, the Col du Mollendruz, a mountain in the second category, is likely to provide a preliminary decision with a good 30 kilometers to go.
