With the LIV Tour, Saudi Arabia wanted to turn the golf world on its head. Now the country is withdrawing its money – and the future of the tour is uncertain.

Saudi Arabia is apparently stopping financing the controversial LIV Tour golf series at the end of the 2026 season. This is reported by the Wall Street Journal and CNBC. Accordingly, the future of the tour is seriously questioned. When asked, LIV Golf initially did not comment on the reports.

The first speculations about a possible withdrawal of the fund emerged at the beginning of the month. At the time, the question was whether the tour was on the verge of collapse. CNBC reported the league will “explore strategic alternatives” to continue operations.

The series had invested billions of Saudi dollars to lure players like Bryson DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson away from the PGA Tour. This week, LIV Golf postponed its June tournament in New Orleans. Representatives of the organization expressed the hope of rescheduling the event this year.

The next tournament will be May 7-10 at Trump National in suburban Washington. The final scheduled event of the season is scheduled to be played August 20-23 in Indianapolis.
