“We will give continuity with belonging, attention and love – began De Rossi -. We satellites of Genoa? No, but not even branches of Roma or Roma Under 23, all nonsense that I read on social media. There is nothing true. We will play in Serie C, we will pick the best young players from the Primavera of the various clubs, I will look at those of Genoa or Roma as well as other teams. I will exploit my knowledge, but the beauty of that project is that we don’t want to be nobody’s branch or under nobody’s hands. We are small, we wait for the bureaucracy to give us the green light because we are already ready (for the stadium, ed.), we have top-notch youth teams, we do everything that is said about Italian football.”

We live on football, I have the fortune and misfortune of having to follow two teams and when things go well it’s wonderful. For me it was a dream, an emotional one: it’s not just a matter of ego, seeing those faces so happy for me, for my family, the horns honking around Ostia, in our small way we saw an incredible participation, usually we see them on the Lungotevere for Roma and Lazio, and instead there were four hundred made people around Ostia feel important, we will give continuity with belonging, attention and love”.

Finally, a reference to Gasperini’s Atalanta, which he had already taken as a model when he was Roma’s coach: “Atalanta followed a nine-year journey with a very strong coach and a club that produced players from the youth sector and built a long project. They followed a long, continuous, linear journey that only big clubs manage to do. I grew up with an Atalanta that was the elevator between A and B and is now a European power. They are the examples to follow, as well as Bologna. In my years Palermo was a big team, Chievo bothered everyone: the difference is that they provided continuity.”
