Recommendations of the Editorial team
The exhibition “Corbijn, Anton”, which is dedicated to the work of the Dutch photographer, director and video artist, starts with a large-scale opening party at Fotografiska Berlin. For the opening, the house combines an exhibition, a discussion format and a concert program with numerous international and Berlin musicians.
The focus of the evening will be an artist talk with Herbert Grönemeyer as well as live performances by Anika, Drangsal, Isolation Berlin, among others.
Looking back at a formative work of pop culture
The exhibition is dedicated to Anton Corbijn’s photographic work from the late 1970s to the present day. Portraits, series and works from different creative phases are shown, which trace his influence on the visual language of pop and rock music.
The Berlin retrospective focuses not only on well-known motifs, but also on Corbijn’s ongoing examination of staging, proximity and artistic identity.
Conversation about music and imagery
A central program item on the opening night is the conversation between Anton Corbijn and Herbert Grönemeyer, moderated by Hadnet Tesfai.
The topic is the collaboration between musicians and photographers – in particular the question of how visual concepts can accompany and shape musical works. Corbijn gives insights into his work on photos, videos and visual campaigns; Grönemeyer talks about the importance of images for the perception of his music.
But be careful: According to the organizers, all places for the talk have already been taken. Currently only tickets for the subsequent party in the museum are available.
Concert program throughout the museum
After the conversation, Fotografiska will be transformed into a concert and club location. The musical program is based on sound worlds that are associated with Corbijn’s work: post-punk, dark wave, synthpop and experimental electronics run through the entire line-up.
Sally Dige, Pol, Isolation Berlin, Drangsal and Anika appear one after the other in the ballroom. At the same time, DJ sets and live performances take place in other areas of the house.
DJ Hell takes over a late slot at Bar Verōnika, while Daisy Weweh opens the evening there. Elektrokohle, Jess Brett and Obi Blanche x Kristina Tica, among others, play DJ and live sets in the Café Bar.
