Next exclamation mark from Tessa Johanna Brockmann. One day after her opening win against Uzbek Maria Timofeeva, the German tennis talent also won her round of 16 game at the W100 tournament in Wiesbaden and was the first German to reach the quarter-finals. Another DTB representative will follow the 20-year-old into the last eight.

In the round of 16 of the W100 event in Wiesbaden, Tessa Johanna Brockmann (number 268 in the world rankings) celebrated a narrow three-set win against the American Carol Young Suh Lee. Brockmann, who made seven double faults, used her second match point after almost three hours to make it 7:6, 4:6 and 6:3. Brockmann already showed strong fighting spirit against Timofeeva when she was able to turn around a 2:5 deficit in the first set.

In the quarter-finals, Brockmann is now the slight favorite in the duel with the Slovakian Mia Pohankova (number 341 in the world rankings). However, the 17-year-old has been convincing in Wiesbaden so far, beating Mona Barthel in the first round and the second-seeded Swiss top 100 player Simona Waltert in the round of 16.

Noma Noha Akugue and Anna-Lena Friedsam will play for another place in the quarter-finals in the German duel on Thursday.

Rehberg and Noha Akugue also surprise

Noha Akugue (number 193 in the world rankings) won a DTB match against Ella Seidel (number 100 in the world rankings) at the start, Friedsam (number 207 in the world rankings) prevailed in a close match with 3:6, 6:4 and 7:5 against the Russian Aliona Falei (number 223 in the world rankings).

Meanwhile, Max Hans Rehberg also showed a strong performance at the Challenger in Shymkent. The 22-year-old, who fell out of the top 600 in the world due to injury, gave the Uzbek Sergey Fomin (number 359 in the world rankings) no chance at 6:2 and 6:0.

Having slipped into the main field as a qualifier, Rehberg is now waiting for the top seeded Lithuanian Edas Butvilas (number 291 in the world rankings) in the quarterfinals.
