Yellow confusion among BTSV opponents: top performers are missing

Most recently he was Holstein Kiel’s trump card in the relegation battle – but now the bitter setback follows. After a card chaos, the service provider is suddenly blocked. The news should be well received in Braunschweig.
Three goals in the last three games: Umut Tohumcu was recently worth his weight in gold for Holstein Kiel in the relegation battle of the 2nd Bundesliga. He contributed one goal and two assists to the “Storks’” recovery. With the victories against Fortuna Düsseldorf (2:1), 1. FC Kaiserslautern (3:0) and Hertha BSC (1:0), Kiel got rid of its worst relegation worries.
The problem: Tohumcu not only collected goals, but also yellow cards. In the win against Hertha on the last matchday, the 21-year-old received his third warning since he moved to northern Germany on loan from TSG Hoffenheim in the winter.
The next problem: He had already seen yellow twice in his five Bundesliga appearances for the Krauchgauer in the first half of the season. In total, that’s five yellow cards and one suspension for one game. Because he received warnings in various leagues, Kiel apparently initially assumed that Tohumcu was against Eintracht Braunschweig can play on Saturday (kick-off: 1 p.m.).
On Wednesday, however, the club rowed back: “Contrary to the current reporting on Umut Tohumcu: Since yellow cards are valid across all leagues, Tohumcu, who was on loan from TSG Hoffenheim in the winter, received his fifth yellow card in the game against Hertha BSC,” the club wrote. “So he won’t be available next weekend.”
This means: Kiel will miss the brilliant Tohumcu in the important duel with Braunschweig. And despite the recent series of successes, the “Storks” are still by no means certain of staying in the league. Three game days before the end of the season, the lead over a relegation zone is five points.
