A fire broke out last night in the heathland near the Baggelhuizerplas, west of Assen. Because a lot of smoke was released, an NL Alert was sent shortly before midnight to people living around the Baggelhuizen recreation area.
This involved a heathland fire that at its peak occupied 50 by 50 meters of land, near the Defense military training area. Several fire brigade units arrived on site to extinguish the fire, which succeeded just before midnight.
Because the smoke is not yet out of the air, an NL alert warns residents around the Baggelhuizen recreational area to keep windows and doors closed for the time being. The warning applies, among others, to residents of Bovensmilde and Witten.
