Things are slipping away from Gerard Joling pretty quickly: his fight with a 17-year-old boy on a stage in the country. That boy threw beer at the singer, was brought onto the stage by him, after which Geer threw a glass of drink back in his face. What followed was a skirmish. When the boy was already on the ground, Geer gave another kick.

Geer responds

Geer hoped this would blow over. “To this day, Gerard Joling doesn’t really want to give a big interview about it on camera,” Bart Ettekoven said in Shownieuws this week. “Every time we speak to him we are not allowed to ask him about it, so we did not do that again today.”

The singer was in last night Today Insidewhere he still responded to the issue. “Of course it happens everywhere that they throw a beer and that is okay, as long as they don’t throw it in your face, right?”

‘Right in the face!’

How does Geer look back on it? “I find it annoying. I can only say that I find it very annoying, both for the boy’s family and for myself. I went too far, but in my emotion. I would have preferred not to have it, but it happened, it’s done.”

Why was he so triggered? “It was right in my face, bam. Then I really thought: God damn it. I was only on the fourth song. I had finished singing my song, but you hardly see anything anymore and you don’t expect it either. But it happened. It is very annoying, but it happens more often.”

Not spoken

Has Geer spoken to that boy yet? “No, no. My management has still had contact with his parents and everything has been nice and quiet and we are keeping it quiet.”

He continues: “People are rude, they are young people, but then I think: do you want to act tough for your girlfriend or do you want to impress your friends? It doesn’t do anyone any good.”

Cut

Did Geer immediately walk off stage? “A lot of people cut straight away. Afterwards I immediately started saying to the audience: ‘Sorry, I have been doing this job for 41 years with pleasure, but I don’t feel like getting a glass of beer in my face.’”

The singer, who also revealed that he recently shared a bed with Raymond Mens’ friend, concludes: “I also thought it was brave that he came on stage, but then I grabbed a glass of apple juice and yes, that of course sucks. I should never have done that. I said: ‘Yes, now you know what it feels like.’”
