A small fire broke out in the nature reserve near Huis ter Heide this evening. The fire started at the back of the forest.
“It was a fire of five by five meters,” says a spokesperson for the Drenthe Safety Region (VRD). “After five minutes we had the fire under control.”
In Drenthe, there have already been two previous wildfires in a forest area this week, in Wateren and Zuidwolde. The VRD has increased the wildfire risk from Phase 1 to Phase 2, partly because dry winds from the east are expected in the coming days.
According to the spokesperson, it is still too early to say whether the fire at Huis ter Heide is also the result of the drought. The fire brigade has now managed to extinguish the fire.
