The two Drenthe fire trucks are extremely useful in fighting wild fires because they can carry more water than average. The wildfire fighters are also agile, because they have four-wheel drive and have a modified sprayer. “This means that when you drive on a sandy path, you can spray the verge next to it completely wet.”
This does not mean that more Drenthe aid will be on its way in the coming days. “We only have eight of this type of vehicles, we cannot miss more here,” said the VRD spokesperson.
It is not without reason that the VRD has today scaled up the wildfire risk in Drenthe, from Phase 1 to Phase 2. This week alone there were wildfires in Wateren and Zuidwolde. “It is also bone dry in Drenthe. If a fire breaks out here and even more material is lent, we would no longer be able to perform ourselves.”
