Former Schalke player Taylan Bulut’s time at Besiktas could end in the summer after just one year. The 20-year-old right-back could be drawn back to Germany, as journalist Murat Özen, who is well connected to Besiktas, reports. Accordingly, Borussia Mönchengladbach is preparing an offer for Bulut, as the Foals are looking for a new player for the right side of defense.
Bulut moved from Schalke to Besiktas for 6 million euros in the summer of 2025, where he has played ten games since then. The German youth international had to line up behind the experienced Gökhan Sazdağı in the first half of the season before another right-back was put in front of him in the winter with Marseille loanee Amir Murillo. He played more than 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw against Karamgümrük at the weekend because Murillo was missing due to a yellow card suspension – it was only his fourth game in 2026, two of them in the Turkish Cup.
When Bulut moved to Istanbul, the coach was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was fired after failing to qualify for the Conference League against Lausanne-Sport. For Cemal Utku Ağkaya, Content Manager Turkey at Transfermarkt, one of the main reasons for Bulut’s situation: “Bulut didn’t know how difficult the situation was when he moved to Besiktas with great expectations. He was a transfer from the Solskjaer era. However, shortly after his arrival there was a change of coach. After Solskjaer came Sergen Yalçın as coach. He is a coach who takes few risks and often trusts in experienced players. That’s why He preferred Gökhan Sazdağı in the right-back position. Bulut had problems adapting as a young player from abroad. The great pressure at Besiktas made his defensive mistakes and physical weaknesses more obvious. After that, Taylan no longer had a real chance in the team and began to look for a new club.
According to Turkish media reports, Besiktas wants to part ways with the player. According to the medium “Haberturk”, his advisor is exploring the market and has already spoken to Bundesliga clubs. One of them is Borussia Mönchengladbach, which only has one nominal right-back in its squad, Joe Scally. The 23-year-old is always flirting with a move to the Premier League and is entering his final year of contract in the summer, so he is considered a candidate for departure in the coming transfer window.
