Delivery figures remain below expectations
In addition to the delays in the robotics area, the company presented weaker than expected operational key figures for its core business. Tesla said it delivered a total of 358,023 vehicles in the first quarter of 2026, well below the previously published analyst consensus of around 365,645 units. This figure represents a sequential decline of approximately 13 percent compared to the fourth quarter of the previous year. Of the total deliveries, 341,893 units were for the volume models Model 3 and Model Y, while the remaining 16,130 deliveries were for the upper-class models and the Cybertruck, according to the official announcement from Tesla Investor Relations (IR).
History and development of Optimus robotics
The development of the humanoid robot at Tesla began publicly in 2021, when Elon Musk first presented the concept of the “Tesla Bot”. Since then, the project has gone through several stages of evolution up to the “Optimus Gen 2” generation. According to the German Press Agency (dpa), it is already equipped with improved tactile sensors to take on complex tasks.
