At the spectacle in Paris, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany has to sit in the stands – an experience he doesn’t want to have again.
Vincent Kompany will probably not soon forget the Champions League semi-final in Prinzenpark. On the one hand, because the FC Bayern coach saw one of the craziest premier class duels in recent years when his team lost 4:5 against Paris Saint-Germain. On the other hand, because the Belgian was not allowed to watch the game from his usual spot on the sidelines.
The reason: Kompany received a yellow card in the quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid (4:3). It was the 40-year-old’s third warning in the current competition. The result: he had to sit in the stands for the game in Paris. Meanwhile, his assistant Aaron Danks took over his duties on the pitch.
After the spectacular game in the French capital, Kompany answered questions from the streaming provider Prime Video. He was also asked about his place in the stands. The ex-professional made no secret of the fact that he didn’t like it, but he also took the whole thing with humor.
“It’s not fun,” said Kompany about his unusual perspective on the game. The Bayern coach had to laugh at his own words. “And I also sat in the press box,” added the Bayern coach. Once again his own statement was followed by laughter.
When it was pointed out that PSG coach Luis Enrique liked to sit in the press box, Kompany reacted with incomprehension. “I don’t know why. I wouldn’t do it,” he explained, making it clear that he would like to avoid another game on the journalists’ pitches. “If that doesn’t happen again, then I’ll be happy.”
Kompany is now convinced that his team will make a comeback in the second leg in Munich. “The belief is 100 percent there, the feeling is there,” he emphasized. He then made an appeal to the Bayern supporters.
