At least eight people have been killed in a major fire in an apartment building under construction in the Russian capital Moscow, according to official sources. Thirteen people were also injured, the state news agency TASS reported on the authority of civil protection.

There are fears that the number of victims will continue to rise. In total, there may have been up to 200 people in the building when the fire broke out. The fire brigade managed to bring 31 people to safety in time.
The fire spread rapidly
The fire quickly spread to almost all floors of the building. The central part of the building was completely engulfed in flames before the fire brigade got the fire under control.
The public prosecutor’s office has started an investigation into the cause of the incident. There may be violations of building safety regulations.
